Becoming a global citizen is the need of the hour, and hosting these plays for the parents of Pre- Primary section with an aim to showcase the high standards of all skills attached with English indeed received a thundering applause from the audience. The school strongly believes that in order to enhance one’s language skills, one must have a wholesome approach of not only ‘listening-speaking-reading-writing’ but also of ‘acting-singing-reciting-debating’ along with having knowledge of the great authors who have contributed to the language. The event venue at the school, jam packed with eager parents had only one thought prevailing in each mind that Shakespeare wrote his plays centuries ago, and developed complex characters that were portrayed by these teenagers, yet, these plays are relatable in today’s society.
The students displayed 4 most popular plays by Shakespeare i.e. the romantic-tragedy of ‘Romeo & Juliet’, the comedy of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, the historical ‘King Lear’ and historical-tragedy ‘Julius Ceaser’. COOKING WITH PLEASURE WEEKEND ACTIVITY OF FIA BOARDERS
Saturday, November 19, 2016:
Contributed by: Anas Khan and Karan Baijal (IGCSE 2018)
WE PLANNED, WE COOKED AND WE SHARED: Democratic we are, when planning and executing at FIA. As we readjust ourselves, suddenly we begin to realize the self-worth independently learning to share and care at IGCSE and A Level. The boarders eagerly look forward to the weekend activities. Last weekend emerged the real chefs in us, as the boarders of IGCSE and A Level carried out an outdoor cooking activity under a starry winter night-sky at an Amphitheatre, in front of the Boys Dormitory.
It’s fun cooking out in the open than in a safe kitchen, sometime. It is a diminishing art! it is an important boon in a society already dominated by electronic text messages and isolating technology, and slowly losing the battle against tasteless and lurid fast-food. It conjures a bond between teams and a dying spirit of team work apparatus.
Our mentor for the evening was none other than beloved Ratan Sir, supported by Pramod sir- yes! For the unaware, Pramod sir makes an excellent cook a practiced hand in non-vegetarian wonders. He arrived to a group of effusive and nervous group of students-nervous because, it was question of a desirable dinner on the line and given to our inexperience a lot could go wrong.
Our first job is to set up a makeshift stove-fashioned from bricks and dried bark, permanently barrowed from nearby trees. This was our first team task. There was a variety of wood: some long, some short, some broken by twist and some by the strength of 3 giants.
The duties were delegated. The teams assigned were responsible for each portion of our meal: Salad, Baingan Bharta, papad and the crown jewel – A Spicy Mutton gravy! The Brinjal was roasted, mashed and then cooked under the congenial expertise of Neeta ma’am and Vidya ma’am. The mutton was cooked under the guidance of Pramod sir and we prepared the ‘Bhakris’ into circles though not in perfect shapes.
The Dinner was of great taste as our efforts in ‘Cooking with Pleasure’ was appreciated to a great extent by Ratan Sir, Sharvari Madam, Meghna Madam and Makarand Sir. They were lavish in their praises which was evident in their smiles and the energy while tasting the preparation. One Bhakri was fortune to be prepared by our very own Makarand Sir.
Our Learning: At the end of the day when all the containers were wiped clean what mattered most is the enthusiasm and Team work we took as our learning from ‘Cooking with Pleasure’ activity.
